What to Expect From Us
In An Emergency
The District will send an initial message to parents and guardians via text, phone call, email, and social media stating the type of emergency and the school. Please keep your contact information up to date for this reason. Messages are NOT sent to emergency contacts.
Communications will continue on timestamped intervals, even if no new information is available. When the situation is resolved, a final update will be indicated and sent.
Questions During an Emergency
In the event of an emergency, please refrain from calling the school offices, or entering the school grounds. School secretaries are an integral part of our emergency response teams, and their phone lines must be kept open to aid in resolving the situation. If you have specific questions while the District is experiencing an emergency, our School Communications Specialist will monitor email and social media comments to respond in a timely manner to the best of their ability.
Safety is our top priority here at Greenville, which is why we take extra precautions to ensure the well-being of our students, staff, and visitors.
Current Safety Measures in All Buildings
Visitor Procedures: All buildings are equipped with the Raptor System which requires visitors to present a valid form of identification and cross-checks with the sex offender registry. All visitors are required sign in and out, and wear badges for the entirety of their visit.
Single Point of Access/Buzzer System: There is one point of access for the elementary school and one for the middle/high school building. This requires everyone to be buzzed in by the building's attendance secretary through the front door.
SRO Program with Greene County: A member of the Greene County Sheriff's department is on campus every day to ensure safety.
Employee Badge System: All employees are required to carry an identification badge that also doubles as a key card to gain entry into classrooms and offices.
Enhanced Electronic Security Equipment: All classroom and office doors are on an automated lock system, when a door is closed it requires a key card to get in. During lockdowns, this keycard system is automatically disabled to prevent unauthorized access.
Surveillance Equipment: Cameras are installed throughout all buildings, school buses, and campus .
New Employees: All new employees are background checked and fingerprinted before they begin work.
Arrest Notifications: Any time a member of the staff (including substitutes) is arrested for any reason, notification is sent to the Superintendent.
Drills: To keep safety front of mind, Greenville practices four lockdown drills and eight evacuation drills per year, per school.
Numbered Fields/Lots: All athletic fields and parking lots are numbered for easy navigation in case of an emergency. Check out the map here.
Blue Light System: Administrators have the ability to lockdown the school from any place in the building. When the lockdown system is initiated, all door locks are immediately activated and keycards are deactivated. Throughout campus, there are blue lights to alert the community that a lockdown is taking place.
Partnerships: The District has a working partnership with a number of law enforcement agencies and schools in the surrounding area including the Greene County Sheriff's Department and the State Police. Additionally, the District is part of a number of safe school committees including Greene County Safe Schools and the Greene County Threat Assessment Team.
Staff Training: All staff members are trained at the beginning of each year on the District's Standard Response Protocols.
Safety Night: Each September, the Superintendent hosts a School Safety Community Engagement Session to provide the community with an overview of safety practices at Greenville and allow for the opportunity to ask questions.
Emergency Packs: Every classroom has an emergency pack complete with resources in case of an evacuation and a stop-the-bleed kit.
AEDs: The District has multiple Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)s located throughout campus.
Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
All schools follow the same five standard responses to ensure there is no confusion in the event of an emergency. These responses are based on an all-hazards approach as opposed to having responses for individual scenarios.
LOCKDOWN
Used to secure school buildings and grounds during incidents that pose an immediate threat of violence in or around the school. For example, if a person has a weapon on school grounds.
Secure Lockout - Used to secure school buildings and grounds during incidents that pose an imminent concern outside of the school. For example, if police were looking for a suspect in the area.
Hold - Used to limit the movement of students and staff while dealing with short-term emergencies. For example, if a student were having a medical issue in the hallway and emergency services needed to get through.
Evacuate - Used to evacuate students and staff from the building. For example, in the case of a fire.
Shelter - Used to shelter students and staff inside the building from a weather-related event. For example, if a tornado were to occur outside the school.
